DFS Best Bets - Week 12
November 21, 2017
By Austin Chen
Thanksgiving week is upon us! It is a time to be thankful for friends, family, and the great game of fantasy football. Before we get to the picks, I am going to do a quick recap of the picks from last week. The top plays written up were Kirk Cousins who finished QB 1, the Baltimore defense, and Marcedes Lewis. Meanwhile the duds of the week were Doug Martin, DeVante Parker, and Rob Gronkowski.
Everyone should go check out the RotoQL NFL Lineup Optimizer as it is a must when building your daily fantasy football teams. The Week 12 best bets are coming right up!
Carson Wentz (DraftKings: $7,200, FanDuel: $8,900)
I expect daily fantasy players will be paying up for Tom Brady or Russell Wilson this week but Carson Wentz is worth your consideration. He has proven to be matchup proof this season. The Bears defense is good but nothing to fear. Matthew Stafford was able to throw for 299 and 2 tds last week. Wentz makes for a great GPP play as the Philadelphia Eagles are the #1 scoring offense this season. Carson Wentz has already thrown 15 touchdowns at home and will be looking to add to that number.
Marcus Mariota (DK:$6,300, FD: $7,800)
Marcus Mariota did not look good against Pittsburgh last Thursday night. However, he still threw for over 300 yards and finally got a rushing touchdown. Mariota should be better this week as he looks healthy and face the weak Indianapolis Colts defense. I am stacking Marcus Mariota with Corey Davis or Delanie Walker this week as the Colts have been surprisingly good against number 1 wide receivers all season.
Other QBs To Consider: Russell Wilson, Cam Newton, Paxton Lynch
Kareem Hunt (DK: $8,000, FD: $7,700)
I am not gonna lie. Kareem Hunt is the reason I didn’t cash in GPPs last week. However, in daily fantasy football we have to move on and not let past results cloud our judgement. Considering he was 35% owned and his salary did not change, I am willing to bet a lot of people will be off him this week. Kareem Hunt gets another weak rushing defense. The Buffalo Bills have been shredded by every team they have seen in recent weeks. Game flow is very favorable as the Chiefs are at home and a 10 point favorite. The only person holding Kareem Hunt back is Andy Reid.
Dion Lewis (DK:$4,800, FD: $6,200)
Dion Lewis seems to be the running back to own in the Patriot backfield right now. We know this can change in an instant, but Lewis has taken over the lead back role with Mike Gillislee a healthy scratch. This has led to Lewis scoring over 17.5 DK points in back to back weeks. The Patriots are a 16 point favorite against the Dolphins this week so this should be a positive game flow for the New England rushing attack.
Other RBs To Consider: Todd Gurley, Alvin Kamara, JD McKissic
Mike Evans (DK: $7,400, FD: $7,700)
The focus will be on Julio Jones this week but I am looking at the wide receiver on the opposite sidelines. Mike Evans bounced back from his suspension and saw another 10 targets last week. I expect Evans to be the focal point again this week as the rest of the Tampa Bay offense has taken a step back. Vegas still expects this game to be high scoring as it has the second highest over under at 49.5 points.
Corey Coleman (DK: $4,300, FD: $5,800)
Due to a lack of options in Cleveland, Corey Coleman is in consideration this week for tournaments. Coleman saw 11 targets in his 1st game back versus the elite Jacksonville secondary. He was able to turn in 6 catches for 80 yards. He is underpriced for the amount of opportunity he will see this weekend. I really like his chances of putting up a even better game this week.
Other WRs To Consider: Michael Thomas, Kenny Stills (if Matt Moore starts), Corey Davis
Greg Olsen (DK: $4,800, FD: $6,400)
A lot of players like to wait a week to play a player coming off injury. This an opportunity I like to take advantage of in GPPs. Greg Olsen is on track to play this week for the first time since breaking his foot. The New York Jets defense is nothing to fear against tight ends as they have yielded the 9th most fantasy points a game. Without Kelvin Benjamin and Curtis Samuel, I expect Greg Olsen to slide back into a top 2 passing option for Cam Newton. This may be the only chance we get on DraftKings this season to start Olsen under $5000.
Jack Doyle (DK: $4,500, FD: $5,700)
I expect Jack Doyle to rebound from his poor outing 2 weeks ago.He has consistently shown himself to be Jacoby Brissett’s favorite option. Even with only 2 catches and 9 yards in week 10, Doyle still has 46 targets in the last 5 weeks. There are very few tight ends getting that much opportunity every week. The Titans defense is middle of the road against tight ends this season giving up an average of 11 points a game.
Other TEs To Consider: Delanie Walker, Jimmy Graham, Zach Ertz
New England Patriots (DK: $3,400, FD: $4,700)
The Patriot defense has rebounded nicely after a terrible start to the season. They have yet to allow over 17 points since week 5. They now play the Miami Dolphins who only average 15.2 points per game which is 31st in the NFL. The last time we saw Matt Moore start, he was shut out and threw 2 picks along the way.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (DK: $2,200, FD: $4,300)
The Atlanta Falcons offense have looked off all season. The Falcons offense is only averaging 21.8 points per game after averaging 32 points a game last season. Meanwhile the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense seem to have finally turned a corner. They have posted back to back games of double digit DraftKings points. Yes, there is still risk which is why the price is so low, but there is finally some upside in this under performing defensive unit.
Other Defenses To Consider: Jacksonville Jaguars, Philadelphia Eagles, Cleveland Browns
