The LVH SuperBook reports a "good win" in the British Open with Ernie Els winning, and more importantly, Adam Scott losing.
Between the adjusted odds after each round and the in-progress wagering, bettors kept re-upping on the former UNLV golfer who led after each of the first three rounds and created some jeopardy.
During the in-progress wagering, bettors were laying minus-400 (Bet $400 to win $100) on Scott all the way up to minus-700 (Bet $700 to win $100) until Els inched closer and Scott started a bogey-fest in the final four holes.
Els had been listed at 40/1 prior to the Open, said assistant manager Jeff Sherman who stayed steady at the number throughout, "We did well with Els, but the number shows how much respect there is for him at the British Open. In all the other majors, Els is 60/1 or higher."
"But, you could have had him at 50/1 earlier in the day (final round) when it looked like Scott was going to run away with it."
Sherman immediately began setting his odds for the PGA Championship which begins Aug. 9 at Kiawah Island, SC, but is just as worried about posting numbers on the next two tournaments prior. Tiger Woods will be the favorite and Sherman doesn't see his odds being any higher than 7/1.
"I'm thinking 6 or 7/1 on Woods. His next tournament in Akron will be key on what we eventually settle on, but he's playing great right now and 7-to-1 for the PGA might be too high to offer."
When the dust settled and the LVH eventually posted their PGA Championship odds on Monday morning, Sherman once again offered the highest number on Woods at 7/1. Expect the rest of the city to offer 5/1 odds.
