Wilcox wins South Georgia Classic

VALDOSTA, Ga. (AP) - Will Wilcox can sleep a bit easier now.

Wilcox won the South Georgia Classic on Sunday for his first victory on the Web.com Tour. He shot a 1-over 73 in the final round to finish four strokes ahead of Zack Sucher, D.J. Brigman and Michael Putnam, who tied for second at 11 under.

``This is just surreal,'' Wilcox said. ``I've been dreaming about this my whole life.''

The 26-year-old Wilcox earned $117,000 and moved from No. 55 to No. 3 on the money list. The top 25 at the end of the year get a spot on the PGA Tour for 2014.

``I can't even think about that right now,'' Wilcox said.

Sucher shot a 65 for the best round of the day. He had four birdies and an eagle on the front nine. The top-25 finish put him in the field for the upcoming Stadion Classic in Athens.

``My immediate goal this week was just to get in the top 25 so I could play again next week,'' he said. ``I had no thoughts about winning. I just wanted to get it going on the front and then see what might happen on the back.''

Wilcox is the fourth first-time winner in seven events on the Web.com Tour this year. He grabbed control with a course-record 63 in the third round that gave him a seven-stroke lead, prompting a restless Saturday night.

``I barely slept,'' he said. ``I woke up at 4 a.m. My heart was racing but I was so tired. It just wasn't fun at all and I was ready to get back to the golf course this morning.''

It turns out there was nothing to worry about. He bogeyed his final hole of the tournament at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Club, but it didn't matter one bit.

Alex Rocha (67), Andrew Loupe (70) and Ryan Spears tied for fifth at 10 under.
