Rickie Fowler tied for 2nd at US Open

PINEHURST, N.C. (AP) - Rickie Fowler will have to wait for another chance at his first major championship.

The 25-year-old Fowler tied for second Sunday in the U.S. Open, finishing with a 2-over 72 for a 1-under 279 total at Pinehurst No. 2. Fowler and Erik Compton ended up eight strokes behind runaway winner Martin Kaymer.

Fowler played in the final group in a major for the first time in his career, though it was his second straight strong finish in golf's biggest events this year. He tied for fifth at the Masters.

Fowler is still chasing his second PGA Tour victory, though he says he will ''keep my game progressing the right way'' and says ''it's just a matter of time'' before he has a breakthrough win.
