The third golf major of the season takes place on Thursday July 17 as the top ball strikers in the world will square off in the 2014 British Open.

This year’s event takes place from Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake.

When Tiger Woods returned to the greens from a back injury at the end of June, oddsmakers at Sportsbook.ag made Woods a 15/1 co-favorite to win this year’s British Open. The other golfers sharing the high expectations from the offshore outfit are Rory McIlroy and Adam Scott.

Tiger’s first start back took place at the AT&T National from Congressional. After 36 holes, Woods was at 7-over 149 and wound up missing the cut by four shots. It was the 11th time in his career that he had missed playing the weekend.

The last time Royal Liverpool Golf Club hosted the British Open was in 2006 and Tiger Woods captured that event, earning him his third Open Championship victory.

After watching Woods look shaky in his return, the oddsmakers have adjusted their numbers. Adam Scott, the top-ranked golfer in the world, is now the top betting choice at 12/1. Woods and McIlroy both remain 15/1 choices.

Bettors should note that there were a couple other international players that received some attention at the betting counter in the past three weeks, Justin Rose and Graeme McDowell. Rose went from 30/1 to 22/1 and McDowell was at 45/1 but now 28/1 to win this year’s Open Championship.

Listed below are the odds at Sportsbook.ag for this year’s British Open as of 7/12/14.
