Stenson ties for 3rd at PGA Championship

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Lost in the hoopla over the final-round battle between Rory McIlroy, Phil Mickelson and Rickie Fowler at the PGA Championship was Henrik Stenson's impressive effort to join the conversation Sunday.

After starting the final round four strokes behind McIlroy, the Swede pounced on Valhalla Golf Club's mushy greens to card six birdies in the 5-under 66. Stenson shared the lead twice, including a four-way tie at 15 under through 13 holes.

A bogey at 14 left Stenson chasing Mickelson and McIlroy, but he finished solidly to earn a third-place tie with Fowler at 14-under 270, two strokes behind winner McIlroy.

Stenson's highest finish in a major this year now has him believing that he'll ''get more chances'' to win one.
