Ochoa wins third straight Sybase Classic

CLIFTON, N.J. (AP) -Two tournaments without a win was enough for Lorena Ochoa.

Ochoa overcame a balky putter to shoot a 1-under 71 and post a one-stroke victory over five players Sunday for her third straight victory in the Sybase Classic.

A day after putting away the retiring Annika Sorenstam, Ochoa had to withstand a late charge by another Swede, Sophie Gustafson, in winning for the sixth time this year.

Gustafson birdied No. 16 to get within two shots of Ochoa, and she pulled to within one when the leader bogeyed No. 17.

Both players reached the par-5, No. 18 in three. Gustafson missed a 10-footer to tie and then Ochoa, who missed 10 birdie putts of 20 feet or less, simply had to two-putt from 8 feet to become the fastest player on the LPGA Tour to reach $12 million in career earnings.

Ochoa missed the first putt, and then tapped in.

Morgan Pressel, who shot a final-round 6-under 66 to zoom into contention, also shared second with Catriona Matthew, rookie leader Na Yeon Choi, Brittany Lang and Gustafson.

Christina Kim and H.J. Choi were two shots back.

Sorenstam, who announced Tuesday that this would be her final year on tour, started the final round five shots behind Ochoa and never got into contention after bogeying the first hole. The Hall of Famer, who led after the first round, shot a 71 and finished at 211, five shots behind Ochoa.
