So Greg Oden was the number one pick in the draft, there's a shock. And Kevin Durant went number two, another shock. Actually, there weren't very many shocks on Thursday night in New York, unless you count the long line for the Iphone. Oh, and Spike Lee actually sounding intelligent during an interview. And ESPN allowing Stephen A. Smith to run his mouth again after canceling his show.
The University of Florida became the first school to have three players go in the top-10, Al Horford (3, Atlanta), Corey Brewer (7, Minnesota), and Joakim Noah (9, Chicago) were three of five Gators who found homes away from the Swamp.
My best grade of the night goes to Seattle, When you finish near the bottom of the league, its a good time to start rebuilding and by securing a second lottery pick, that's exactly what the Sonics did. They added Jeff Green to complement Kevin Durant. Grade A+
Which makes the takers of my second best grade of the night the Atlanta Hawks. Atlanta, like Seattle, added a second solid pick in Acie Law IV. Law will now be dishing passes to Al Horford which could be a very strong inside/outside combination. Grade A
My opinion for worst grade of the draft goes to the Cavaliers who, without any picks, had to sit on the sidelines. This is a team that should have been trading future picks to get LaBron some help and go for the NBA title next season. Now, everyone has gotten better, and they're in the same place. Grade F-
And the steal of the draft goes to the Phoenix Suns who picked up SF Alando Tucker with the 29th pick of the draft. Tucker was easily considered one of the top college players on the court last season and pairing him with Steve Nash is going to make him an all-star. Count on it.
