Summer is a drag to me. Always has been and probably always will be. It's because I'm a "football/basketball" first kind of guy. Yes, I like baseball and I'm even a golfer but summer just isn't anything like fall in a college football town. That being said, I did watch the Home Run Derby last night and found the most exciting part of the night to be everytime John Kruk yelled out "watch out kid" to the 10-year-old shagging balls in the outfield.
Halfway through the baseball season, the Red Sox are running away with the AL East and somehow everyone expects the Yankees to make a big move to catch them. Don't count on it.
Wimbledon did provide a little more excitement this week. I'm not a huge tennis fan but you have to appreciate how dominant Roger Federer is in his sport. Winning five consecutive titles on grass in simply incredible and his rivalry with Rafael Nadal could put a little boost into a sport on the decline in America.
Tiger Woods brought golf back to Washington D.C. last weekend and his new tournament has received rave reviews from all around. How ironic is it that his tournament, on fourth of July weekend, was won by a South Korean? K.J. Choi's win, his second this month, should be noticed by the golf world. The far east already dominates women's golf leaderboards and it seems the men are not far behind.
