Can someone please tell me what Vanderbilt coach Kevin Stallings was thinking on Saturday when he grabbed a live basketball and proceeded to swat Florida big man Joakim Noah away from it? First of all, Noah could have laid this guy out with a pinky finger. Secondly, and will someone on the SEC officiating crew correct me if I'm wrong, isn't that a technical foul for delay of game? Vanderbilt was fined $25,000 by the SEC for storming the court and I suggest fining Stallings for his actions as well.
The Wisconsin Badgers (26-2, 12-1) are now on top of the college basketball poll for the first time in school history and they play Ohio State (number two at 24-3, 12-1) in Columbus on Sunday. This is a great showdown and lets just hope the Badgers don't slip up in East Lansing tonight and ruin it. I think Michigan State guard Drew Neitzel just might have another miracle in him.
I'll admit to not being much of a Nascar fan but even I was intrigued by the last few laps of the Daytona 500. Even though I once told Jeff Gordon that real racing was doing 110mph down I-95 in Miami (and I still believe that), this was certainly a close second. If a car always crossed the finish line on its roof, I'd watch every week!
Oh how I love spring training. The smell of that fresh air, the green grass, and the media looking for a descent story. Isn't it strange that one of the biggest stories out of baseball thus far is about a player that hasn't shown up (Manny Ramirez)? I guess that beats the alternative story about how Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter broke off the wedding.
The Accenture Match Play Championships kick off tomorrow in Tucson, Arizona which gives golf fans an early sense of "March Madness." The playoff bracket format makes for a nice change of scenary and just like in college basketball, plenty of upset possibilities. With 64 of the world's best golfers in the field, I suggest tuning in on Wednesday because 32 of them will be packing their bags after 18 holes or less.
The dumbest move of the week thus far goes to Indianapolis Colts running back Dominic Rhodes who was pulled over about 3 a.m. last night driving a GMC truck 81 mph in a 55 mph zone on Interstate 65 in Indianapolis' far northwest side. Rumor has it the Colts are now seeking to trade him to the Bengals.
Congratulations are in order to New Englad Patriots QB Tom Brady who is apparently going to be a father, although I guess he's as suprised as we are. Don't worry Tom, if you don't want to get back with your girlfriend and take care of the kid, I'm sure we can find plenty of people willing to step in and spend time with actress Bridget Moynahan. Just call me if you need me.
