As I watch Tiger get ready to close out the field in the PGA Championship, I can't help but think that just a few Sundays from now, I'll be huddled in front of 10 televisions to watch the NFL season kick off. That's a really good thing since I can't handle much more of "swing vision" on CBS and I'm looking forward to replacing it with the X's and O's.
For the past few nights, we've gotten a small taste of the NFL through pre-season football. While most of the stars are kept on the bench after just a series or two, its somewhat interesting to see rookies battle it out for their jobs. Truth be told, I hate preseason football and wish the NFL would get rid of it and extend the regular season by a week or two. That being said, it does provide another opportunity to make some cash and my early 4-2 record is a satisfying start.
A few notes from the preseason thus far......
The Dolphins offense is bad. Very bad. If I were Trent Green, I would ask to be taken out of every game now and save myself what will likely be another concussion. If their offensive line doesn't learn how to block in the next few days, Green will be down and out before he even sees the regular season schedule.
Things haven't changed for new Falcons head coach Bobby Patrino but they have changed changed for most of his team. Life After Vick started this week and all in all, new QB Joey Harrington didn't look too bad. Maybe it wasn't his fault he couldn't cut it with the Dolphins. I think it was the offensive line.
The Cleveland Browns flipped a coin to determine their starting QB in the opening preseason game. What that really meant was that it didn't matter whether Charlie Frye or Derek Anderson took snaps because they'll both be on the sidelines by October in favor of rookie Brady Quinn.
And in other news this week....
The Yankees are rolling, the Dodgers are falling and John Daly is warming up for golf tournaments in casinos.
The NCAA decides to ban text messaging, Andy Roddick loses again, and Danica Patrick blows her tire.
Reggie Miller wants to come back to the NBA, Michigan and Notre Dame wants to stay united forever, and ESPN's new show "College Football Live" considers Tim Tebow a Heisman candidate.
Yes, with all this weeks excitement, I can't wait for football season too.......
