While the college football season provides ample opportunities for betting on specific games, its hard to ignore the sometimes excellent values that futures and props can offer us before the season kicks off. Many sportsbooks have props posted but Bodog.com in particular offers us some great options on player performances throughout the season. Here are a few plays that are worth your hard earned cash:
Colt McCoy (Texas) Over 2,500 Passing Yards
When you consider that Colt McCoy threw for over 2,500 yards in his freshman season, its not hard to think that he'll accomplish the feat this year. Texas returns their top six receivers from last years squad so I would imagine his passing yards to be closer to 3,000.
John David Booty (USC) Under 3,000 Passing Yards
While Booty was able to complete 61.7% of his passes last season for over 3,300 yards yards, he loses his top two receivers in Steve Smith and Dwayne Jarrett. USC is deep in the tailback position and should become a little more run heavy on offense than in previous years.
Tim Tebow (Florida) Under 9 1/2 Rushing TD's
With all the talent on the offensive side of the ball for the Gators, I expect to see Urban Meyer spread it around a little in goal line situations to the likes of Percy Harvin and Jarred Fayson. Let's not forget that Florida has another QB waiting in the wings in Cameron Newton who will likely be used by Meyer much like Tebow was last season.
Antone Smith (FSU) over 750 Rushing Yards
Florida State has struggled on offense but with Antone Smith now getting the bulk of the work behind an improved offensive line, he shouldn't have a problem averaging just 63 yards per game. After all, Smith did run for 5.2 yards per carry last season.
P.J. Hill (Wisconsin) Over 14 1/2 TD's Hill is going to be the workhorse on the Wisconsin offense this season and his should numbers should only improve over the 15TD's he scores last season. With QB John Stucco gone, the Badgers will be even more run heavy in the early part of the season and Hill should surpass 14 1/2 TD's in early October.
Mike Hart (Michigan) Over 11 1/2 TD's
If Mike Hart scored 14 TD's in his junior season, it's only right to expect more from one of the nations top running backs and a Heisman candidate. Hart should have two or three TD's in the book after week one versus Appalachian State.
Brian Brohm (Louisville) Over 2,800 Passing Yards
Brohm is easily one of the nations best passers and Louisville returns its top four receivers. RB's Michael Bush and Kolby Smith are absent from the backfield which means new head coach Steve Kragthorpe will need to rely on Brohm even more than the Cardinals did last season.
Justin Forsett (California) Over 1,500 Rushing Yards
Forsett split time last season with Marshawn Lynch and still managed 626 yards on just 119 carries, a 5.3 yard average. With Lynch now in the NFL, and Forsett the feature back in a very good offense, I expect him to get over 300 carries and 1,400 yards.
