This may be the shortest blog I ever write. It's not that I don't want to write more, it's just that I really don't know what to say. As an expert on college hoops, you expect to win games. It's what we do. But what happened to me on Thursday, the first day of the NCAA Tournament, was almost surreal.
My previous blog was about a sleepless night and some last minute questions I couldn't shake from my mind. The best news for me was that while I didn't sleep, I didn't get out of bed and change a thing. Here's the short recap of my day yesterday.
9:30am..I'm suddenly confident about today and have a strange feeling that I could go 16-0 in the NCAA games. No one ever comes close to doing that, right?
12:00pm..I'm at my office (sports bar) prepping for the days activities.
2:15pm...I'm 3-0 and reminding myself that Davidson never had a real chance at an upset.
4:15pm...I'm 7-0 because Bobby Knight got outcoached by Al Skinner. Sad really.
5:00pm...I race home to take a shower and gloat to myself about a great opening. My phone won't stop ringing with friends wondering who I have in the night games.
6:45pm..I'm 8-0. G.W. looks silly. Vanderbilt looks like a tournament team.
7:10pm..I'm back at the bar, this time with my buddies who can't believe I went 8-0
9:30pm..Greg Paulus stinks up the joint and Duke becomes my first loss of the day. I'm not upset in the least, I'm now 11-1.
12:30am..Last call and I don't want to leave. I'm 16-2 (thanks to Carolina's miserable second half and West Virginia's second half run) and I'm paying for drinks.
1:00am..My friends are now officially calling me "The Man of March." At 16-2, it's the best day of my handicapping career. Tomorrow I try and repeat.
