The more things change, the more they stay the same. It's mid-September and here we are talking about the big stories; the Yankees and the Red Sox, Notre Dame football, and black quarterbacks in the NFL.
To start off, let me bring you back two months when I said that the Yankees would not only make the playoffs, but they'd be there in the end threatening the Red Sox for the division title. It wouldn't be a "fall classic" unless these teams were battling it out for playoff spots and bragging rights. What's more interesting to me is if these teams go at it for the next few weeks and then match up again the playoffs, is anyone going to bother to watch the World Series? It's almost a shame that the two best teams in baseball play in the same division.
Are you tired of hearing about Notre Dame football yet? Have you ever seen a team so bad get more airtime from us, the media? Well, get used to it because it's not going to end anytime soon. People like to hear about Notre Dame and since it doesn't seem that a win is in sight, we could be talking about them for a very long time. But remember this, and you heard it here first, I'm calling for Notre Dame to put it together quickly and beat Michigan State this week. Wishful thinking?
Donovan McNabb should shut his mouth. I'm so tired of hearing his "black quarterback" comments and how he's treated unfairly because of his race. Right now, he's being treated poorly because he's playing poorly. Because he plays in Philadelphia, where they'll hang you out to dry real quick if you don't perform well, he's going to take a beating until his team wins some games. It has nothing to do with his race and everything to do with the teams record. He didn't play the race card when he was quarterbacking a Superbowl contender.
A few notes for the week and some thoughts:
Tim Tebow could run for Governor of Florida and win. He would beat out Pat Riley, Bobby Bowden, and and Jeb Bush but he'd wind up in a run-off if Billy Donovan declared his candidacy.
UCF is now a big time football program. An on-campus stadium, an impressive performance against a big time program (Texas) and the kind of weather every kid from the northern half of the country dreams about. Top-25 within 2 years.
The New England Patriots could own Las Vegas if they've been betting on themselves. In fact, if I had the resources, I'd launch an investigation into team activities. What am I talking about? The Pats are 61-17 ATS dating back to the 2003-04. That's covering the line almost 80% of the time.
The Mets are going to blow their lead in the NL East. They'll make the playoffs as a wild-card and find themselves in a Subway series with the Yankees.
