My jaw dropped and I could hardly believe my ears. Never had I been so upset with a football fan in my life after this comment from a man wearing a Packers jersey; "I can't believe the Chargers scored but at least it was Tomlinson."
When I pressed the man for his reasoning, he politely explained that he had started Tomlinson in his fantasy football league. All I could do was shake my head in disgust. What ever happened to cheering for "your" team. You know, the one with players actually wearing the same jersey on the sidelines? Don't get me wrong, I think fantasy football is a great way to get involved in the whole league and to give some interest to games you wouldn't normally watch but too many people have shelved their home teams for their drafted teams. It just bothers me.
On a lighter note, this was one great weekend of college football. Here are a few things I noticed on the gridiron.
Clemson RB's C.J. Spiller and James Davis are good. The two combined for 280 yards on the ground and four TD's. I'm curious to see what they can do at Georgia Tech next week in a big time game.
Look mom, Notre Dame scored points and Michigan won another game. Things are looking up.
Louisville QB Brian Brohm threw for 555 yards and four TD's and they still lost the game. The Cardinals defense should be embarassed with their play. From the first 79-yard TD pass to the final whistle, they were outplayed by what I consider a second rate offense.
Ron Zook is making some noise in the Big Ten with the Fighting Illini as his team is 3-1 after a win over Indiana. Now the Zooker just needs to get a signature win. Insert next weeks home game against Penn St.
Kentucky QB Andre Woodson continues to impress me as he led the Wildcats to a big win at Arkansas. The now Heisman candidate controls an offense that has scored 40 points or more in their first four games.
The University of Miami is back. Thursday nights win over Texas A&M (in which the Canes make the Aggies look like tackling dummies) makes me a believer in head coach Randy Shannon...as long as he can stick with a QB.
Scheduling note: Similar to college basketball's ACC/Big Ten challenge, I'd like to see college football schedule a Pac-10/SEC challenge.
Speaking of college basketball, I made a quick pit stop at Barnes and Noble and found the Athlons College Basketball Preview Guide on the racks. Amazing how it just sneaks up on you, isn't it?
