You can argue that LSU is the best college football team in the country and yet you can argue that it is also the luckiest. It seems that everytime Les Miles comes up with a strange play call late in the game, which seems to be quite often lately, the Tigers execute to perfection and take home a win. It's also important to note that these play calls, like last evening's call to go for a 25 yard TD pass instead of kicking a field goal, could have cost LSU an SEC title. This begs the question, lucky or good?
Unlucky were the Louisville Cardinals on Friday night when they had a punt returned on them for a TD after it seemed the Connecticut punt returner signaled for a fair catch. Whatever he signaled for, the referees missed it and it cost Louisville the game.
Also unlucky were the Kentucky Wildcats who had the misfortune of playing the Florida Gators just one week after knocking off the number one team in the country in triple overtime. Either Tim Tebow is "that good" or the Wildcat defense was "that tired." It's hard to figure out which of the two is true but Kentucky won't find themselves in the top 10 on Sunday.
How dumb am I for thinking that Notre Dame would actually "show up" on Saturday and give USC a game? Seriously, someone smack me.
But then again, how smart do I look for touting Oregon as one of the top teams in the country back in August? Dennis Dixon has a chance to win the Heisman with an impressive performance at home next week against USC.
My Heisman list: Dennis Dixon, Tim Tebow, Ray Rice, Pat White, Andre Woodson
Ohio State's defense may be one of the best I've ever seen. That being said, if their offense doesn't get it together they're going to lose to Michigan 3-0.
It turns out that Miami Dolphin coach Cam Cameron isn't much different from previously fired head coach Nick Saban. Saban brought in banged up veteran QB Dante Culpepper to improve the team. Culpepper couldn't get it together. Cameron brought in veteran Trent Green. Look where that went. Note to new Dolphin head coach "X," draft the best QB on the board!
A note to all facilities hosting basketball games this season; make sure the ice underneath the flooring is covered properly. Canceling a pre-season NBA game halfway through because the ice was "sweating" isn't a good thing. Canceling a regular season game would be a whole lot worse.
On a Sunday in October which is usually reserved for the NFL, baseball has a game 7 tonight between the Red Sox and the Indians. I'm curious to see the ratings between this game on FOX and Sunday night football on NBC. Is it "Upfront Week" in NY?
