That's it, I'm casting my vote. I've seen enough and there is no way you'll convince me otherwise. Tim Tebow is the best player on a college football field this season.
The quarterback they call "Superman" is just that, super. He single handidly wins games using his legs, his arm, and his head. It's almost impossible to even consider there might be kryptonite somewhere to stop him. What he did in South Carolina on Saturday night made Steve Spurrier look like an "average" quarterback and he won a Heisman.
Just 10 games into the season, he's already broken numerous records at Florida including the single season mark for TD's which was previously held by some guy named Emmitt Smith. Accounting for 42 TD's in just 10 games, Tebow is also the teams leading rusher and the nations most efficient passer. The only thing he hasn't done is win a national championship as a starting QB, although he does own a ring and played a prominant role in that as well.
I know he's young, and I know he's a much hated Gator, but give the man credit where credit is due. Give him the trophy.
I will admit that there is a man in a non-BCS conference who deserves some credit as well and by credit I mean an invitation to New York along with Dennis Dixon, Darren McFadden, and Chase Daniel. UCF running back Kevin Smith has been running all over Conference USA opponents all season long. He's racked up an impressive 1768 yards on the ground to go with 23 TD's and is almost certain to pass that 2,000 yard milestone. Take notice, he's NFL material.
In other notes this week, I'm happy to brag about calling the Illinois upset over Ohio State. You could see that one coming a mile away as the Buckeyes offense was finally exposed for the fraud they are. It was also a bad look ahead spot with Michigan looming in a defacto Big Ten championship game next week.
Charlie Weis should be embarassed. He's managed to turn Notre Dame into the laughing stock of college football just two years into his tenure. I don't care what it costs, the man needs to be fired.
We could start the BCS debates now, like what happens if LSU, Oregon, Ohio State, West Virginia, Arizona State, Boise St. and either Kansas or Oklahoma finish the season with one loss. Oh, and Hawaii could be undefeated. That'll be a blast, won't it?
At 0-9, maybe it's time for the Dolphins to start second round draft pick John Beck? Might as well see what the kid can do considering they passed up Brady Quinn and decided to stake their future on Beck. Don't be shy Cameron, it can't get worse.
While he shouldn't be fired like Charlie Weis, I'm surprised Billy Gillespie didn't resign after embarassing his program just one game into their season. Kentucky basketball losing at home to Gardner-Webb is simply unacceptable and not exactly the way to get the fans behind your coaching tenure. Gillespie is going to have an extremely rough go for the next few months thanks to that performance. This worse is loss than Michigan football's home loss to Appalachian State.
You have to be excited to see Joe Torre out of New York and into a good situation in Los Angeles. Now all Torre has to do is make the playoffs for the season to be considered a success. Alex Rodriguez would certainly make that goal a little more realistic as the Dodgers don't exactly have the talent on their roster to get them there anytime soon.
Please do not send me any emails this week asking me about Jeff Jordan, the son of legendary Michael Jordan. Jeff began his college career this week at Illinois coming off the bench in the late minutes and took just one shot, a miss. At 0% shooting for the season, that's all we'll be writing about Jordan for quite awhile.
A congratulations is in order to Paula Creamer who won this weeks Tournament of Champions in Mobile, AL, her second win of the season. In true Creamer style, she won this event by playing with a pink golf ball. It was almost as cute as she is.
And speaking of cute, Carrie Underwood had a monster night at the Country Music Awards this week. Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo may have a new contract and the Cowboys might look like a Superbowl contender but I still think dating Underwood would be better. What do you think?
