All week, it was the one thing I was really looking forward to. I couldn't wait to see the Final Four with two great games on tap. Two big men going at it for Ohio State and Georgetown and a rematch of last years NCAA Final with Florida and UCLA. What I got was pure dissapointment.
As a handicapper, I couldn't have been happier with the results of last night. I came away 2-0 to improve my NCAA Tournament record to 49-28 (+1640). The Ohio State win also solidified my third straight number one finish in a my favorite bracket pool. Exciting and profitable.
As a sports fan, I couldn't have been more dissapointed watching the games. The only word I could use to describe them is "Boring." What should have been a great battle between Oden and Hibbert, two of the NCAA's premier big men, turned into "who has less fouls" as both players seemingly spent more of the game on the bench then they did the court. So goes for the heavyweight matchup ESPN's Gameday crew talked about all week.
In the second matchup, the first five minutes was some of the worst offensive basketball I've seen as Florida turned the ball over four times in the first five minutes and and couldn't buy a bucket. In the next 35 minutes, they went on to make UCLA look like a Division II school in a blowout. The 10 point difference at the end of the game isn't close to resembling how little chance the Bruins had in this game.
Some other notes for the week:
Arkansas has received permission to talk with Memphis basketball coach John Calipari. While the Razerbacks will no doubt throw alot of money on the table, this move would not be smart for Calippari. In fact if he is smart, he'll wait until Donovan turns down Kentucky so he can make his move there.
The only bad news in Gainesville, FL this week is that RB Mon Williams has torn his ACL in a non-contact drill and will likely miss the season. Williams rushed for 101 yards on 13 carries last season and was expected to play a major role in the Gators offense.
News from Miami says that Dolphins RB Ricky Williams has started the process to get himself reinstated into the NFL. Miami holds Williams contact but its unclear how new coach Cam Cameron feels about Williams return to the team. Wouldn't it be great to see Ricky Wiliams out on South Beach at night with Randy Moss? I see that pairing being incredibly beneficial to the team or maybe just a bad April Fools joke.
Today is opening day for Major League Baseball and tonights matchup between the Cardinals and Mets means, well, it means there are 161 more games after this so I guess it doesn't mean much. Can't they shorten the season so we can get to the playoffs already?
