After the confetti fell and the players left the floor, it couldn't be more clear to me. The Gators were the best team in college basketball. No doubt about it. Not a remote possibility for controversy. They got it done, just like I knew they would.
The Thad Five never had a chance against Donovan's boys. Not in December when they were blown out by 26 in Gainesville and not in April when the final margin was closer but the game exactly the same. The end result, Florida winning their second national championship in as many years. Well, actually its their third championship if you include football.
You see, the Florida athletic program is by far the best in the country. Heck, they're even number one in gymnastics. If they had a hockey team, they'd probably win that too.
The reason in one word; money. With almost 50,000 students, plenty of alumni, and Bull Gators making major donations, this athletic program has the budget to hire the big name coaches, enhance the facilities, and still give kids the education they deserve. They can also give kids 70 degrees and sunny or better year round.
So while Noah, Green, Humphrey, Brewer, and Horford were walking around campus in flip flops Christmas week, their competition was bundled up in the film room trying to figure out a way to beat them. The competition should have opted for flip flops instead.
