When that ball sailed over the fence in the second inning, I wouldn't have thought it would be the only run the Giants needed to knock off the Diamondbacks. Apparently, Barry Bonds is worth all that cash he's being paid.
Don't get me wrong, I was one of the skeptics about seeing Bonds back in a San Francisco uniform. I understood the dollar signs the Giants were looking at should Bonds hit a few home runs early in the season and chase Hank Aaron's record. But I, like many, were under the impression that the old man was only going to be inithe lineup so that he could chase that record. So that he could swing for the fences and go for it. As for making an actual contribution to the team, well, that was secondary.
But today is one of those days where Bonds contributed in a big way and in the only way he knows how; the long ball. And that ball put the Giants back at .500.
On the note of "getting paid," beloved Yankee Derek Jeter struck out with a runner on base down two runs in the ninth inning today. While "Mr. Clutch" was stepping into the batters box, the announcers were commenting that A-Rod is just two batters away from the plate. Now what does that tell you?
If I was on the PGA tour, there is no doubt I'd be down in New Orleans this week at the Zurich Classic. After all, if you want to get paid, this is one of the weeks to do it. That's because its a rest week for Woods, Mickelson, Goosen, Singh, Els, and plenty more of the top golfers in the world. Your best chance at a win and a big paycheck is this week. On a sidenote, this tournament is simply boring to watch.
And I guess if you can't earn a paycheck you have to find creative ways to "get yours." University of South Alabama basketball player Ernest Little was arrested Friday in Monroeville and charged with first-degree robbery. He's accused of trying to hold up a motel and leading police on a chase that ended with Little running his Cadillac Escalade into a farming tractor.
In closing today, I have to mention that my thoughts and prayers are with the students at Virginia Tech University. This shooting has impacted us on so many levels and we can only hope that society can learn from this awful event.
