On the Saturday before Father's Day the Padres and Cubs took more than a few swings at the plate. San Diego starter Chris Young threw a pitch that Chicago's Derrek Lee was sure was aimed at his head. The pitch glanced off his left hand as Lee went sprawling to the ground. On his way to first base Lee had some choice words for Young and then responded with an over-hand right aimed at Young's head. Like Young's pitch Lee's punch missed it's target and Young responded with an over-hand right of his own. It was at this time that Lee realized he had bitten off more than he could chew. Both benches emptied as Young and Lee were held back from each other. But, here comes that fun part. After Lee took his swing and Young responded, Lee realized just how big and strong Chris Young really is. It was at this point that the comedy started. With players pushing and shoving each other all over the field Lee took a pecuilar route on his supposed desire to get at Young. With Young standing a few feet away Lee headed east to get behind of all people Lou Piniella before the scrum continued. After his attempted sucker punch Lee wanted no part of Chris Young. Even I was surprised at Young's strength and powerful size. I never realize how big and powerful Chris Young is compared to other baseball players. Lee didn't want to get into it, but he had started something that might be more harmful than getting hit by a pitch. Lee may be a slugger at the plate but it ends there. PS...the cubs still stink!
