Although some of us love the drama of college football, when I looked at the AP Poll today and saw USC ranked 10 I was slightly disgusted..Southern Cal would be favored against any team on any field in the NCAA if they played them tommorow. PERIOD! Although it is not like NFL or NCAA Hoops where "anyone can beat anyone on a given day" it seems to be headed in that direction. Take a look below at some of the impressive performances by lesser known teams (Notice the 1-AA teams making noise):
Week 1: 1-AA APP St (No Line) 34-32 SUW at #4 Michigan ARK St (+31.5) lost at #5 Tex 13-21
Week 2: MTU (+41) lost at #8 Lou 58-42 1-AA N.Iowa (No Line) 24-13 SUW at Iowa St 1-AA S.Ill (No Line) 34-31 SUW at N.Ill 1-AA URI (No Line) lost OT 7-14 at Army
Week 3: 1-AA Citadel (No Line) lost 31-45 at #7 Wisconsin UCF (+17) lost to #6 Tex 34-31 FIU (+32) lost at Mia 9-23 1-AA UNH (No Line) SUW at Marshall 48-35 1-AA TXST (No Line) lost at Baylor 27-34
Week 4: 1-AA North Dakota St (No Line) SUW at CMU 44-14 1-AA SELA (No Line) lost at Tulane 27-35
Week 5: 1-AA UMass (No Line) lost at #6 BC 24-14 1-AA ARKPB (No Line) lost at NMXST 20-17
Week 6: FAU (+18) lost to #5 USF 35-23 1-AA Liberty (No Line) lost 34-35 at Toledo Stan (+39) SUW at #2 USC 24-23
With some of these 1-AA schools putting up solid performances, you ask yourself if the NCAA would ever make only 1 Division in Football and eliminate 1-AA? What I would like to see is perhaps 1-AA ranked teams be part of the official LV rotation. It would only add roughly an average of 3 games a week but it could be used as a nice gauge as a official "record" as to how 1-AA teams can compete with the big boys. The gap is definately shrinking...
