The football season is in full swing. With three weeks of NCAA football and two weeks of NFL under our belts were able to see who is for real and had us fooled.
Let’s take a look at the NFL and see how things have shaken out thus far:
Week 1 was reminiscent to the 2005 season when favorites were covering at a rate of nearly 57%. The final tally had 10 favorites covering, 4 dogs and 2 pushes. The majority of games went under, with 10 games going under the total and only 5 games going over, with 1 push.
Week 2 was very similar to the 2006 NFL season where the dogs really barked. The Final tally was almost inverse of week with the Dogs covering 12 games the favorite covering 3 games and 1 push. The over’s made a small come back with 9 games going over the posted total and 7 games going under.
The 2 week tally reads 13 favs 16 dogs with 12 over’s and 19 unders and 1 push. Since totals normally are even by the end of the season, I expect a few more overs to come in; odds makers will post lower totals as well helping the cause.
Week three should give us a nice indication of how the season will play out, there are a lot of big favorites on the board, but will the betting public be guns shy from last weeks massacre or will the favorites strike back to even out the stats?
College football is wrapping up out of conference play while teams gearing up to face tough conference play and face long time rivals. We have seen some great out of conference rivalry games so far with Kentucky knocking of Louisville, Missouri handing on to beat Illinois, Iowa St knocking off inter state rival Iowa.
It seems like the Big 10 is down this season, with Michigan stumbling and Ohio St in rebuilding mode, Wisky and Iowa are middle of the road in my opinion while Purdue and Penn St might battle for the title.
The Big East has impressed, Louisville suffered a tough beat in Kentucky last week, but South Florida had a great win at Auburn, Cincinnati knocked off Oregon St, West Virginia continues to dominate out of conference foes, as does Rutgers.
The big 4 teams at this point seem to be LSU, USC, Oklahoma and Florida. I still think West Virginia can run the table, but they will need some help, obviously Florida and LSU will play each other so that leaves 2 other teams standing in their way at a shot for the title, but we all know the football God’s seem to make the impossible a quick reality.
With little over a week to go in the baseball season all eyes have to be on the National league playoff race. The Mets have a 1.5 lead on the Phillies, the Cubs have a 1.5 lead on the Brewers, and while the Diamondbacks have 0.5 lead on the Padres! The Phillies are 2.5 back in the wild card race, so they are rooting against the Mets and Padres every night. The Phillies were 6.5 games out of first place this time last week they have won 6 of their last 7 games including a 3 game sweep at NY. Meanwhile, the Mets are 1-6 in that same period; the padres don’t seem to lose these days winning 7 games in a row. Stay tuned as this stuff changes from day to day.
