In our weekly update on the REAL MLB standings Arizona still holds the lead in the N.L. while last weeks A.L leader KC went from + 500 to -150, ouch – reality set in. The Giants made a nice move from -300 to positive units this week. L.A. continues to burn bankrolls as they brig up the rear.
This week I wanted to correlate team pitching with total units. Right off the bat we see that Arizona has a solid team ERA of just over three while they are + 975 on the season, coincidence? There are some glitches, Atlanta has the second best ERA but is in the negative (-346) for the season, their bull-pen has been killing them. L.A. is another team that has team ERA under four but is killing handicappers, the culprit this time is lack of offensive production, the Dodgers are hitting a decent .267 but have had some serious droughts. Understand that starting pitching is a focal point for most handicappers, but there are several other factors that must be factored in when picking a side.
Here is a breakdown of total UNITS for the season. (This is based on $100 moneyline bets per team. So if you bet any particular team every time they played this season, this is where you would stand).

ARIZONA + 975 FLORIDA + 638 CHICAGO + 597 MILWAUKEE + 501 ST LOUIS + 325 SAN FRANCISCO + 36 HOUSTON - 20 PHILADELPHIA - 155 COLORADO - 167 NEW YORK - 195 PITTSBURGH - 266 ATLANTA - 346 WASHINGTON - 590 CINCINNATI - 633 SAN DIEGO - 767 LOS ANGELES - 789

In The A.L. the A’s went from 3rd overall last week to #1 money leader heading into Friday April 25th. Improving, the Tigers are still bringing up the rear in our standings; almost everyone’s pick to win the AL central is trying to get its act together. It’s easy to understand why ERA’s are higher in the A.L. the DH adds a great offensive player while the pitcher never steps to the plate.
In regards to team ERA, our #1 pitching team is again our #1 money leader. The same basically applies with our 2nd worst ERA team and money burner. Again, there are glitches Toronto is a top tier team in the pitching department but it’s not translating into your pockets as they are the third worst money earning team in the AL. Boston, powered by it’s high octane offense is in the bottom of team ERA’s but has the horses to put up ten runs a night. They are a dangerous team to back for the fact that they are rarely underdogs yet they have the inferior pitcher in most cases, their bullpen is strong given them an odd formula for victory.
