The Florida Marlins are defying the odds as they keep winning in a division that has three teams with winning records while all teams have 20 or more wins. The Fish are fresh off their series sweep against Arizona and look to improve their record as they host Giants this weekend. Meanwhile, the padres are in big trouble, they lose CY Young winner Jake Peavy to the disabled list and he could be out for a longer period. The Mets are another team that has hit the skids of late; there is controversy in the dug-out that might be leading to poor play on the field.
Boston has been great all season; they are now the money leaders in the A.L. Betters beware taking the Sox these days is a pricy proposition. Early season leader like K.C. and Oakland are starting to have reality set in, it’s easy to sneak up on teams but difficult to maintain success. The Tigers and Mariners (two teams that I picked to win their division) are second to last and last in the money standings. These teams have been laying large juice while laying eggs on the playing field.
Here is a breakdown of total UNITS for the season. (This is based on $100 moneyline bets per team. So if you bet any particular team every time they played this season, this is where you would stand).
Money Standings thru May 22nd.

It’s time to take a quick look at how teams are doing in certain situations. Let’s start by looking at how certain teams are doing when they face a left handed pitcher. In the National league three teams are standing out as solid plays when facing a south paw. The L.A. Dodgers lead the way with a 10-4 (71%) mark when facing lefties while the Mets, 10-5 and Phillies 12-7 (63%)are second and third, please consider these teams when handicapping, especially if they are underdogs in this role. Teams to stay away from or “fade” when facing lefties: San Diego 2-11(15%) and San Francisco 5-9 when facing the south paw.
In the American League the White Sox are 10-4 (71%) in 14 chances against lefties while the Red Sox are 6-1 in seven chances with the Angles winning seven of their nine games when facing a left-handed starter. Boston and LAA are usually favored in their games, so look for a nice opportunity with the pale hose when they are facing left-handers and are in the role of the “dog”. Are A.L. “fades” when facing lefties Seattle 4-9 and the Blue Jays 5-8.
Let’s switch sides to see how teams fare against the right handed starters. We have more data to work with as right-handed starters are more plentiful. In the National league the Marlins have feasted on right-handers are they have gone 22-14 (61%), while St. Louis I right behind them going 19-12 (61%) in their first 31 games when facing a righties.
In the American league the surprising Rays have beefed up on the right-hander going 20-13 (60%). While Boston again, seems to be dominating every category as they are successful against the right hander as well, going 25-18 so far. Stay away from the money burning Tigers, especially when they are facing right-handed starters as Detroit is 14-25 (36%) in this role.
