I just read an article saying the NFL is looking at expanding the 16 game schedule to 17. Whats the catch? Reduced preseason games that season ticket holders are forced to pay for? Take away the fabricated bye week that lines the oweners pockets?< BR> No, these greedy owners now want to ship this American made sport across the globe. The NFL wants to have each team play a game abroad by 2010. I really don't think this concept will work.
Soccer is the big international sport. In American soccer or "futbol" as it is know everywhere but here, there is one commercial break, Halftime. I don't think the rest of the globe will be ready for only 5 minutes action in 20 minutes of real time. Heck, I can barely stomach the American NFL, a touchdown 4 minutes of commericals a kickoff and then another 4 minutes of adds. Unless they limit stops in the game will these people care?
NFL Euorpe has been in place for some time now and it caters to a half full crowd. I can see stadiums being full the first seaon for the novelty of the idea. By year three I predict half full stadiums and little intrest in the Green Bay, Houston match up.
The NFL is so worried about making money, they need to worry about their existing fan base. I realize the globale economy is on fire but please don't punish the fans that got you to this level. I am a football purist, if this moves happens I will be upset.
