Well, the sport of boxing will run out its course of lukewarm fights through December but the light continues to shine on what I will call the fight of the year. In what can only be described as an act of brilliance, Floyd Mayweather Jr. dashed any doubts that boxing fans may have had about the 30-year-old master of his art.
Mayweather doesn’t have enough power. He’s always coasting through fights, never throwing a 100% effort. He’s too cocky and that will eventually catch up to him.
All false statements.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. may possibly be the best pound-for-pound fighter that has entered a professional boxing ring in years. He does have power. His speed is so intense and mind blowing that opponents don’t have a prayer and his IQ in the ring is off the charts.
I may sound a bit overwhelmed with the fighter from Grand Rapids, Michigan but Mayweather is just that good.
No disrespect to Ricky Hatton. He fought a great fight early on but the guided missiles that Mayweather launched at the Brit were just too much for any fighter to handle. Ricky, you’re a great fighter and I have a lot of respect for you but you were just outclassed.
So what now for Mayweather?
Retirement seems to be a very realistic option (although I would hate to see a fighter like this in his prime step down from a sport which needs Mayweather more than Mayweather needs the sport). Other then Miguel Cotto, Mayweather doesn’t have that great matchup available to him. He’s just in a class of his own, period!
Just felt like finally giving Mayweather Jr. the respect he deserves. I think all the doubters and people who just dislike his demeanor need to step up and admit that this guy is primetime. It doesn’t get any better in a rich traditional sport like boxing.
I hope you enjoyed a great year and I’ll pick up the act once again come January.
