--The underdogs continue to cash tickets at a furious clip (10-3 against the spread) so far in the NBA Playoffs.
--Although Orlando prevailed in Game 2 over Atlanta last night, the Hawks proved that Game 1 was no fluke. And most importantly, they covered the spread again in an 88-82 loss as 9 1/2-point 'dogs. Larry Drew's team took a double-digit lead in the first half despite the fact that Al Horford was saddled with foul trouble. When Atlanta fell behind by 14 in the second half, it could have easily folded as it did many times in blowout losses during the regular season. But that didn't happen, as the Hawks surged back into the game, trimming the deficit to two with just over two minutes remaining on a Horford dunk off a sweet pass from Josh Smith in transition.
--As of early this afternoon, San Antonio's Manu Ginobili was still considered 'doubtful' for tonight's Game 2 vs. Memphis. Most books are listing the Spurs as eight-point favorites.
--Early numbers for two Game 3's: Orlando -1.5 at Atlanta. Total: 181. Portland -6 vs. Dallas. Total: 186
--Kentucky's Brandon Knight, Terrence Jones and DeAndre Liggins are leaving early for the NBA Draft. None of the three players have signed with an agent yet. Doron Lamb opted to return to UK.
--John Shurna has had a nice career at Northwestern and assuming he intends to return to school, there's nothing wrong with testing the waters as long as you don't sign with an agent. But John, seriously, this just in: You aren't ready for the NBA! The 6-foot-8 Shurna has an outstanding perimeter jumper and is pretty good at taking it into the lane off the bounce. However, he needs to add AT LEAST 15 pounds of muscle if he wants to physically compete at the NBA level.
--If the lockout ends, my Falcons will have four games on national television.
--UFC welterweight contender Jon Fitch is going to miss the next 4-6 months due to shoulder surgery. Fitch is coming off a draw against B.J. Penn in the main event of UFC 127 at Acer Arena in Australia.
