--Have headline writers in New York City ever had so much fun? My favorite from last night via The New York Post: Happy Va-Lin-Tine
--In last night's 90-87 comeback win at Toronto, Jeremy Lin's stat line looked like this: 27 points, 11 assists, eight turnovers, two rebounds and one steal. The Knicks are now 6-0 straight up and 5-1 against the spread since the Harvard product entered the starting lineup. The first non-cover was against the Raptors as 4 1/2-point favorites. Going back further, New York is 8-1 ATS in its last nine games. The Knicks return home to MSG tonight to face Sacramento as six-point favorites.
--Mississippi St. went to Baton Rouge last night and got a Valentine's Hickey in overtime against LSU. The Tigers beat the Bulldogs on Anthony Hickey Jr.'s floater in the lane with two ticks remaining in the extra session. Gamblers should check the status of MSU's stud center Arnett Moultrie, who suffered a shoulder injury on the final play of regulation and didn't play in OT.
--The Ultimate Fighting Championship is in Omaha tonight for UFC on Fuel TV 1. The main event should be spectacular as Omaha native Jake Ellenberger takes on Diego 'The Dream' Sanchez in a crucial welterweight clash. Most books are listing Ellenberger as a minus-360 favorite with Sanchez available on the comeback for a plus-280 payout (risk $100 to win $280). Ellenberger is coming off a thrilling first-round KO of Jake Shields in New Orleans, while Sanchez is returning to the Octagon for the first time since winning a controversial decision over Martin Kampmann in one of the best fights of 2010.
--Washington won in blowout fashion last night at Portland as a 15-point underdog, hooking up money-line backers with a 17/1 payout at The Las Vegas Hilton. The Wizards are 13 1/2-point 'dogs tonight at Los Angeles. The Clippers haven't covered the number as double-digit favorites since April 13 of 2007. The Trail Blazers' LaMarcus Aldridge sprained his ankle in the loss to the Wizards and is day-to-day after X-rays were negative.
--Congrats to my man Chris Vernon, who is taking The Chris Vernon Show national after getting hired by Sirius last week. Chris had me on his show on Fridays in Memphis throughout the 2011 football season.
--Tweet of the Week from the Fake Bill Raftery: Send it in, Jeremy Lin! Onions! Double Order!
