Three University of Tennessee football players were arrested early this morning for attempted armed robbery in Knoxville. The trio of freshmen are Nu'Keese Richardson, Janzen Jackson and Mike Edwards.
You may remember that Richardson was initially a verbal committment to Florida throughout the recruiting process. In fact, it was Richardson's visit to UT that prompted the first round of verbal jousting between Urban Meyer and Lame Chafin'.
While Richardson was visting Knoxville, Meyer called him. On signing day when Richardson inked his letter of intent with the Vols, Chafin' incorrectly accused Meyer of cheating, incorrectly (again) thinking that Meyer was violating an NCAA rule by calling Richardson while he was on an official visit to another campus. This prompted SEC Commish Mike Slive to publicly scold Chafin'.
The big story here, however, is Jackson, who was originally an LSU commit. The Lake Charles, LA., product was ranked as the No. 2 cornerback in the nation by most recruitniks in the 2009 class. Those in the know at UT were thinking Jackson could become the school's next Eric Berry.
Instead, this entire threesome looks like the second coming of that dude that went to Ohio St. You know, the one (Maurice Clarett) that's in jail right now.
