To all of my loyal followers please forgive my slump of the past few days. I will continue to do my homework and break out of this mini slump that i have been going through especially over the Memorial day weekend when it seemed that all of the teams that i picked were on vacation.
Hopefully Tuesday, and the end of the holiday period will bring bigger and better things, and i will continue to bring you the quality selections as i did the first seven weeks of the season. I will be back.
Now on to my two favorite subjects The Mets and the Yankess. As for my Mets there is not much to talk about, yes i know we will eventually have to beat the Braves, and the injury bug may eventually catch up to us. As of right now though they are ahead of last years pace by two games, and all of the slumpers ( Wright, Delgado, LoDuca) are all heating up. The pitching both starters and relievers are doing it effortlessly, and the defense is untouchable, basically if you are a Met fan life is good!!!!!
On the other hand if you are a fan of the last place(as of tonight) Yankees than life is not very good. The team is looking old beyond there years. The outfield of Matsui, Damon, and Abreu look like there average age is 63 not 33. Carlos Beltran covers more ground in the outfield than all 3 of them put together, and you can even throw in Melky Cabrera.
In terms of clutch hitting the yankees do not have any. Besides Jeter who is starting to be infected by the disease the team does not own a clutch hitter. Does anyone think Abreu would have hit the next pitch or the one after by K-rod even if the ump didn't blow the third stike call on Saturday, and then there is Giambi. Can someone tell him that he is paid to hit not to WALK!!!!!
Then of course Mr. April A-rod. What a clutch April player. The only problem is that the majority of his homers since than come when the yankees are up by 5 runs (rare) or down by five runs (common) he is truly the second coming of dave winfield the original mr. April.
How about Cano's defense of late. We can call him the butcher of Second base.
Then there is the relief core. The wonderful combination of butchers and arsonists put together by the soon to be former GM Brian cashman the marqe de sade of the organization.
About the only bright spot right now are the starters who of late have done an admirable job in restrainung themselves from beating the crap out of the relievers.
Finally there is Joe Torre the brilliant hall of fame manger of the Yankees who now looks awfully similar to the manager who managed the Cardinals, Braves, and of course my beloved Mets to last place finishes in various years of his hall of fame managing career. When he walks out of the dugout to change pitchers he looks like the angel of death is sitting on both shoulders.
Alas Yankee fans Clemens is coming. Nothing like 5ip 5 hits 3er 3bb 4k every 5th night to get a team going. At least he wont have to watch them every night. Good Luck!!!! HA! HA! HA!
Remember my loyal followers I'll be back with a vengance, so keep an eye on me, and keep the faith!!!!
Sincerely, Charles Solomon
