I love betting totals. What do you look for when handicapping major league baseball totals? A number of factors come into play when betting totals in baseball. I will share a few before addressing which teams continue to be cash cows in regards to the Over/Under up to this point in the season.
There are some obvious factors including weather, pitching, current form, specific matchups with pitcher vs hitter, pitcher friendly parks vs non friendly pitching parks, field dimensions and some not so obvious like UMPIRES and starting lineups. Some home plate umpires have a very small strike soon and others do not.
The information is there and is very helpful when you know that one umpire lends himself to the OVER at 209 vs another umpire who is 175 to the UNDER. I am not saying blindly bet into the home plate umpires statistics I am simply saying he with the most information generally has an advantage which means more money in your pocket.
Three teams come to mind that have been cashing consistently to the OVER, the Miami Marlins, Colorado Rockies and the Milwaukee Brewers. On the other side of the equation the San Diego Padres have crushed the UNDER at a record pace as the Atlanta Braves and Boston Red Sox have scored very little as well.
Can’t wait for Football season. It is right around the corner. Next week I will address a SLEEPER team in the NFL this year. I am betting them as we speak. Last year, readers remember me calling out the Kansas City Chiefs to be much improved and to bet the OVER in wins. Easy winner, winner steak and lobster dinner.
Until next week sports bettors in the words of my friend and colleague Dink(featured in the sports betting movie Lay the Favorite starring Bruce Willis as Dink) “Be ON the move early or AGAINST it late”.
