As we enter the final days of the NFL please don't get trapped making the typical mistake bettors make this time of the year. I have just finished first in the prestigious Las Vegas RJ Handicappers Challenge. I did so well because I didn't force any plays. In other words I was patient. I made sure if there was a line I didn't like, I didn't play the game.
Everyday I do interviews and radio shows and people ask me why football is the "be all end all" of sports betting. I tell them very simple, "everybody bets football."
If 100 gamblers were in a room, about 25 would bet baseball, 70 would bet hoops, and all 100 bet on football. College kids like to bet their home teams, while grandmothers on social security checks bet football. From blue collar working stiffs to white collar Wall Street bulls, they all bet football.
From sheets in the schoolyard to office pools, you name it. I find that I see a lot of bettors "forcing” a play because they only get football one to two days a week. In basketball there are games 7 days a week. So if you aren't crazy about today’s action, odds are you will like something tomorrow.
In football the lines come out on Sunday night and most of your action is primarily on Saturday and Sunday. If there is a play that you like but aren't crazy about, you bet it anyway because it will be another week until you have a chance to bet. I see a lot of gamblers also trying to get "even" at the end of the year so they bet more than they are accustomed to betting. Bet only what you are comfortable with.
Another key this time of year is injuries. With today’s players being stronger, bigger and faster, plus there are a lot more injuries. Check the injury report daily. There are some teams in the NFL that have over 20 players that are injured.
Listen guys, be patient and have fun.
And make sure you check out my NBA selections that are 14-6 there last 20 plays.
Thank you,
Joseph D'amico
