Performance enhancing…
As if picking games on an even playing field isn't tough enough, I always wonder if I'm at a disadvantage not knowing who's on what.
It's disturbing to me. I'm a purist. I look at numbers, past-performance, and analytics. In my personal life, I train with a personal trainer, and have rebuilt myself the right way.
The only thing I take after a session…is an ice pack. I'm not getting any younger. I don't like cheaters, in any arena. As a student of sports and sports handicapping, I always wonder if it would have been easier to make picks in earlier days…when everything at least appeared to be what it was.
I never saw any headlines in the archives like…"The Babe tests positive for burgers" or "Mantle tests positive for beer". These guys and their teammates did it the old-fashioned way…hard work. They played hurt, not like the box office athletes we see today.
Actually, I can't even comprehend what Killebrew would have been like on human growth hormones. There wouldn't have been a stadium
that could hold him. The problem is, it's like a runaway train right now. Athletes are glorified and insanely compensated based on performance. Kids look at them and want to be just like them…"no matter what".
Unfortunately, "The Natural" was a fantasy. I don't think we can leave it up to the coaches. Even in high school, they are
under pressure to win...period. It comes back to values, and they begin at home. Fathers, tell your sons and daughters, it isn't if you win or lose,
it's how you live your life.
