On to the free play for this week, which is the Texas Tech-Nebraska hookup. This would definitely have been a service play, but I had to downgrade it because of the substantial line move. But I still see the Cornhuskers as being the right side.
Texas Tech will obviously be throwing the ball, and backup Steven Sheffield is slated to be at the controls once again. Taylor Potts is still recovering from a concussion. Sheffield has been outstanding in place of Potts, but that was against pitiful New Mexico and a mediocre Kansas State entry and both games were in Lubbock. This one’s on the road and it’s a much tougher challenge.
Nebraska is just one point away from being perfect and they have right defensive recipe to give the Red Raiders trouble. The Cornhuskers have a very strong pass defense, and if they can just contain the Texas Tech aerial assault, they will make life tough on the Red Raider offense.
The scheduling and situation favor Nebraska. The Huskers have had a few extra days to prep for this game, and there’s a major revenge factor at work here. Nebraska outplayed Texas Tech on the road last year. The Cornhuskers won the first downs by a whiopping 29-16 count, they outgained the Red Raiders by a decent margin, but they didn’t win the game, as Tech pulled out the 37-31 overtime win.
I was very impressed with how Nebraska came back late to win at Missouri in their last game and I see them as a go with team right now. There’s no value in the number, as it’s risen considerably during the week. That’s why I can’t make the Huskers a big personal play. Nevertheless, I see Nebraska as the better team and the key variables point their way as well, so it’s home chalk for this week’s free play on Nebraska minus the points.
I’ll return on Sunday with an NFL opinion. Here’s hoping everyone enjoys a profitable weekend!
