I’m playing the big, bad bully with this week’s play as I’m laying a big number with BYU as they visit hapless New Mexico. There’s not a great deal to analyze here, as it’s a big time mismatch. But what sold me on the BYU side was their performance last week against Wyoming. The Cougars could have mailed it in following the debacle against TCU a few weeks back. Instead, they got themselves together over the bye week and absolutely destroyed the Cowboys in Laramie. That’s impressive, and I don’t see a letup here even though BYU is lined up against a total stiff in the Lobos.
As for New Mexico, they desperately want to avoid going 0-12. But their only real shot at a win comes next week when they host Colorado State. I’m of the opinion that there’s not a whole lot left in the tank for the Lobos, but whatever fuel is still on hand will be geared toward a big effort last week.
I’m not normally inclined to spot huge numbers in November as opposed to doing so in some early season mismatches, but this looks to be a game where BYU can win by whatever they want. They’ve shown the ability to some pretty substantial cripple shooting already this season, so I’ll lay the lumber and project a BYU blowout here.
