According to the “experts”, this year’s Heisman Trophy race isn’t very glamorous and lacks a standout candidate. I could not disagree more. In fact, I think it’s an easy choice and there is absolutely zero doubt in my mind as to who should emerge with the hardware.
Stanford RB Toby Gerhart is having an incredible season. he leads the nation in rushing attempts, rushing yardage and touchdowns. He’s averaging a remarkable 5.6 yards per carry in spite of the fact that everyone knows he’s getting the football. He’s contributed as a receiver out of the backfield, and Gerhart even managed to throw a fourth down TD pass Saturday against Notre Dame that turned out to be the biggest play of the game.
Personally, I don’t think this chase is even close. Gerhart ought to be a runaway. Yet the fact is, Gerhart might not even win the Heisman. And if he doesn’t, it will be yet one more glaring example that the overwhelming East Coast bias that the media insists doesn’t exist cannot be logically denied. My vote for the Heisman doesn’t count. Here’s hoping those whose votes matter find a way to make the only deserving choice.
