It's hard cheering for teams like the New York Yankees or Southern Cal Trojans. Rooting for them as a fan is sort of like rooting for IBM or Starbucks to split its stock once again. However, the tribute that Southern Cal did for kicker Mario Danelo was really special.
The Trojans installed the missing-man formation after scoring their first touchdown against Idaho last Saturday. They took the delay of game penalty, and then the kicker came on and promptly added the extra point. Danelo tragically died earlier this year after the Rose Bowl win over Michigan when he accidently fell off a cliff.
A really classy move by head coach Pete Carroll and the entire Southern Cal team. I'll be cheering for the Trojans all year, even when they're laying a 50-point smackdown on my Arizona Mildcats.
