There is another interesting boxing versus mixed martial arts story going on once again, but this one is more subtle and behind the scenes. There were no salvos fired at Wednesday's Floyd Mayweather-Ricky Hatton towards MMA, just at one another. Ultimate Fighting Championship President Dana White hasn't gone on a recent tirade about boxing, and even has Hatton training at the UFC offices to prepare for the Mayweather fight.
Instead of putting the feud in the headlines with back-and-forth banter, these two sports have decided to have simultaneous events going on December 8th. The Mayweather-Hatton fight is the much bigger event, taking place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena and being shown on pay-per-view. The UFC is having The Ultimate Fighter Finale show at The Pearl inside the Palms Casino on Spike TV.
The UFC usually dominates the 18-34 demographics, and has popular Latino fighter Roger 'El Matador' Huerta headlining the card. The buzz with the Latino fans during the De la Hoya-Mayweather fight back in May was incredible, from thousands of fans in the MGM lobby waiting for the fighters to arrive to Mariachi bands playing.
Great Britian has arrived in full force for the Mayweather-Hatton fight, and it made for some entertaining moments at Wednesday's press conference. Regardless of who wins on Saturday night in either the ring or the octagon, it will be interesting to see the final viewing numbers with both sports are going head-to-head.
