Being a University of Arizona graduate, I had to laugh when rival Arizona State had its new practice bubble blew away due to a monsoon storm. No one was injured, but the $8.4 million dollar structure was destroyed and will not be repaired until next season.
Arizona State's football team had just eight practices in the new facility, and will now practice outside the rest of the season. The $8.4 million dollar facility was paid for by donors and not part of the athletic general fund. However, from an athletic department that dropped three men's programs (wrestling, swimming and tennis) last year due to a lack of funds, it seems extremely frivolous for a practice bubble in a place like Arizona.
Donors stepped up to save wrestling, a program that has produced some marquee wrestlers who have crossed over into the mixed martial arts arena. Here is the local article and pictures of the decimated practice bubble courtesy of East Valley Tribune.
