If you go to the 'Brad Young Bowl' section in my blogs section, you'll see that I absolutely nailed my Super Bowl prediction. I missed the final score by a point when a safety was scored instead of a field goal, but I had Pittsburgh winning, 27-24, with Arizona and the 'over' cashing tickets.
Some thoughts on the game:
* What was Santonio Holmes thinking on his victory celebration? A 15-yard unsportsmanlike penalty in that situation is a potential game breaker. The Ohio State product dodged a bullet when the refs didn't see his display and throw the flag. I've always thought excessive celebration was a stupid rule, highlighted by the end of the Brigham Young-Washington game earlier this year.
* With Pittsburgh driving late in the game, I kept thinking about Buffalo's Scott Norwood and his missed field goal at the end of Super Bowl XXV. That kick occurred in Tampa Bay, and the Bills were going the same way as the Steelers were for their game-winning drive. However, one big difference was that Super Bowl XXV occurred at the 'Old Sombrero' and not Raymond James Stadium.
* James Harrison's interception return for a touchdown was one of the greatest plays in Super Bowl history, but Arizona wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald would have caught the linebacker if he didn't run into one of his own teammates on the sideline. The wide receiver probably would have tackled Harrison around the 10-yard-line, saving a score and keeping Arizona within striking distance. However, Fitzgerald ran into a player who was too close to the sideline that affected the outcome of the game.
* Before I start reserving a spot in the Handicappers Hall of Fame, I just went a horrible 1-3 in my UFC selections for UFC 94. The one selection that I did hit was a decided $2.30 favorite, while I was completely wrong on my BJ Penn-Georges St. Pierre selection. I was also on the wrong end of split-decision losses by Dong Hyun Kim against Karo Parisyan and Nate Diaz against Clay 'The Carpenter' Guida.
