Besides Vickers, another outsider that could crash the part this week in Dale Earnhardt Jr, who was second fastest behind Vickers in two of the practice sessions. Junior has never won at Martinsville, but does have 10 top-5 finishes, including two within his past three starts. There doesn’t seem to be any lingering issues from the concussion that caused him to miss the last two races.
Clint Bowyer also looks very strong and could make a move on Brad Keselowski and cut his 25-point deficit in the Chase down considerably. Keselowski has looked very ordinary while Bowyer looks capable of having a top-5 finish, something he‘s done only once in his 13 career starts at Martinsville. It’s surprising that Bowyer hasn’t been better over his career because he’s always run well on every other flat track on the circuit.
