As we head into the second round of NFL playoff action, we see that three of the four match ups will take place indoors. Both games on Saturday with Arizona at New Orleans and Baltimore at Indianapolis. And one of the games on Sunday pits Dallas at Minnesota.
You'd think history would suggest that the host indoor team (having had a bye) would do very well. Historically these clubs are loaded offensively, having been built with speed and would put up a ton of points. Yes they do score, but not necessarily having had a great success in the win loss department.
Since 1988 there have been thirteen games in the Conference Semi Finals played in domed stadiums. The home team wins on average 30.9 to 21.6. But they are only 8-5 straight up and 6-7 against the spread. And since 2003 they are only 2-3 straight up and 1-4 against the spread.
Something to keep in mind as wee approach the second round.
Thank you and good luck. Jamie Tursini
