We are back in action at Aqueduct on Friday after a long break. There was no racing on Feb. 8-9 due to a winter storm, and I decided to head south on Sunday Feb. 10. There was no racing on Wednesday and Thursday this week due to the cut back in racing in New York.
I thought there might be a cancelation last Sunday at the Big A and elected to head south to handicap the races at Gulfstream Park and Tampa Bay Downs, and that actually worked out well.
I had four winners on top in eight races on my Best Plays Report, and the winner paid nicely: $16.40, $22.00, $4.60, and $14.60.
With the cut back to four-day weeks, and missing a couple of days last week due to snow, we should see an increase in field size at Aqueduct, and we have a solid card on Friday, with just one race having a field of six.
The weekend cards look solid, and do not forget we have racing on Monday, which is President’s Day.
Coming up on Saturday I’ll include the Grade 3 El Camino Real from Golden Gate Fields and the Grade 3 The Very One and Grade 2 Mac Diarmida from Gulfstream Park in my Best Plays Report.
Analysis: Al's Lark drops a notch in class for his second start off the claim by the Jacobson barn. Last out for a $16,000 tag the gelding prompted the early pace and weakened in the stretch to finish third, beaten 3 3/4 lengths by the morning line fav Alston Gunter for the runner up spot. The gelding won for this tag two back for the Levine barn off a two month break and he is a three time winner on the inner track. The old timer owns a solid pace profile throughout and third start of his current form cycle.
Alston Gunter exits the same race as our top pick where he tracked the early pace, took over the lead heading for home and got beat late, coming up a neck short of the top spot. The gelding was making his first start off a 2 1/2 month break for the RRod barn and it was his first go on the inner track in his career. He owns back speed figs that are a good fit and does not need to move forward much off his last effort to get the job done in this spot.
WIN: #4 to win at 5-2 or better.
EX: 4,8 / 3,4,7,8
TRI: 4,8 / 3,4,7,8 / 3,4,5,7,8
Analysis: Revealing Moment makes her first start since running fourth back in December against a strong group of Alw-1 optional claimers in her first go around two turns. The winner of that race was Princess of Sylmar, who came back to win the Busanda and Busher in her next two starts by a combined 14 1/2 lengths. She broke her maiden in her debut going seven furlongs and the cut back to a sprint should suit this gal. Going back five years the Jerkens barn is 17% winners moving runners from route to sprint and the barn can win off the bench. Decent value if she goes off near her 10-1 morning line.
Gritty Gal returns off a two month break, last out beating Alw-1 optional claimers for her third win in a row. She beat our top pick two back when taking a $50,000 starter optional claimer at Belmont Park. The filly owns solid early and mid pace numbers and the barn is 25% winners (with a +ROI) with runners coming back off a 61-180 day layoff. The filly sports a solid looking work tab.
WIN: #1 to win at 5-1 or better.
EX: 1,2 / 1,2,6,8
TRI: 1,2 / 1,2,6,8 / 1,2,4,6,8
