Thanks to longshot Smokie Brown in the nightcap we are looking at a Pick 6 carryover of $539,765 going into Thursday's card at Belmont Park.
Wednesday's sequence was tough, with the winners consisting of Folk Singer ($9.20), Desert Bliss ($10.80), Mah Jong Maddnes ($26.20), Mariel N Kathy ($7.20) Crackerjack Jones ($18.80), and Smokey Brown ($50.50).
We went into Wednesday's card with a carryover pool of $176,813.
Thursday's card looks pretty tough with no real standouts. Here is q quick look at the sequence:
5th: The $100,000 Spite the Devil drew a field of eight to kick off the Pick 6. The Chad Brown trained Readtheprospectus is the 2-1 morning line favorite and is riding a six race win streak.
6th: It's to the turf for a state bred Alw-2 optional claimer going seven furlongs on the turf that drew a field of nine. Again a Brown runner is the morning line favorite as Neck of the Moon (3-1) is coming off a game win against state bred Alw-1 foes.
7th: This is one of the toughest of the sequence as a dozen cheap $16,000 maidens will go 1 1/16 miles on the turf. Summer Shiner is the 3-1 morning line favorite but is making his first start since March. Easy Reach (6-1) exits a steeplechase race and we have a bunch of class droppers.
8th: check below for selections for this race.
9th: It is another turf race for state breds with a field of nine going in this second level optional claimer at 1 1/16 miles. Sneaky Kitten (5-2) is going to end up the favorite but his price is going to be really short and it may be worth taking a stand against for the top spot.
10th: The finale is another tricky race which could produce a bomb like on Wednesday. A field of 11 will go seven furlongs on turf for a $25,000 tag. Hot Rendezvous (2-1) is dropping in for a tag for the first time here for the Gary Contessa barn and makes her eighth career start.
Here is today’s third race (the opening two races are jump races) race from Belmont Park to get the day off to a good start:
BEL Race 3 The Parlo (2:08 ET) 5 Street Secret 8-5 4 Onepointhreekarats 3-1 2 Sea Island 2-1 3 Moon Philly 6-1
Analysis: Street Secret tracked the early pace and had to settle for the runner up spot as the winner Flashy American came with a good late run to get the win and then came back to win the Locust Grove at Churchill Downs in her next outing on Sept. 7. Our top pick won the restricted Open Mind two back in her lone go over the main track here. She owns a solid pace profile throughout with the edge in early and mid pace numbers and will be tough to beat in this spot.
Onepointhreekarats came off a 2 1/2 month break to win the Unbridled last out at Delaware Park in gate to wire fashion. She is now a three time stakes winner for the Motion barn and he landed in the exact in 10 of her 15 career starts. She has shown she does not need the lead and should get a good tracking trip if our top pick is sent from the outside.
WIN: #5 to win at 7-5 or better.
EX: 5 / 2,4
TRI: no play
Today's Featured Race of the Day from Belmont Park:
Analysis:Burndownthetown debuts for the Linda Rice barn that is 10% winners (with a +ROI) with first timers. The filly catches a below average looking group of state breds here and has a nice pedigree. She is by City Zip out of the stakes placed Riotous Miss ($382,310) who has dropped five winners including three turf winners, top earner stakes winner Gitchee Goomie ($680,520) who is a multiple stakes winner on grass. Rice turns to her go to guy in Cvel.
Freud's Sunset acted up at the gate in her debut, tracked the early pace and tired top finish seventh over the turf at the Spa going 5 1/2 furlongs. She took a bit of play, sent off at 5-1 in a field of eight. She comes back with blinkers added today and stretches out to a mile. She figures to move forward with a race under her belt and the 5-1 morning line looks fair enough.
WIN: #6 to win at 3-1 or better.
EX: 5,6 / 3,4,5,6
TRI: 5,6 / 3,4,5,6 / 3,4,5,6,9
These are price plays for exotic players looking to find a couple of extra contenders to use in their trifecta and superfecta wagers. Or for those with smaller bankrolls, you might want to get in a small win-place wager.
R1: #5 Staying On 8-1
R5: #7 Spa City Fever 8-1
R6: #1 Double the Energy 8-1
R7: #3 Moravitz 10-1
R9: #10 Lawyer Jim 8-1
