The New York Racing Association said Tuesday he died of pancreatic cancer Monday night.

Galluscio's first winner as a trainer came at Aqueduct in 1981 with Cher Cheval. His 1,000th came at the Big A with Discreet Force on Feb. 17, 2013.

He trained stakes winners Lord of the Night, Le Grande Danseur, Stormy's Majesty and Raffie's Treasure. Galluscio, whose bright sport jackets enlivened the winner's circle, trained 1,047 winners. His horses had purse earnings of $31.3 million.

Trainer Rick Schosberg called him a ''highly intelligent man who always wanted to improve the backstretch, improve racing and improve the sport.''

Galluscio is survived by daughter Dominique Marie Galluscio; brothers Robert, Raymond, Joseph and Gerard; and sisters Marie Britt and Denise Cote.

Burial is Sunday in Germantown, N.Y.
