Three more races off the turf on Thursday at the Big A has me ready to start pulling out my hair, well if I had any. We still ended up with a good day and we might actually be on the turf this afternoon.

There is more rain in the forecast for Aqueduct, but it is not scheduled to come until late afternoon, so I am hoping we can sneak the entire card in before the rains come.

More moisture on the turf could mess us up on Saturday where there are a pair of stakes and they are both scheduled to go on the turf course.

The $100,000 Atlantic Beach drew a field of seven two-year-olds that will go six furlongs on the outer turf course.





The John Terranova trained Backtohisroots is the 8-5 morning line favorite and is coming off a solid runner up finish in the Futurity over good ground at Belmont Park in his last outing.

Absentee is the 2-1 second choice and will be making his turf debut. The colt broke his maiden in his debut and then ran second against first level allowance foes at Philly in his most recent outing.

The co-feature is the $150,000 Artie Schiller for three-year-olds and upward going a mile on the inner turf course. A competitive field of 10 will line up including Shadwell Turf Mile (G1) third place finisher Qurbaan (3-1) and Knickerbocker (G2) winner Blacktype (9-2).

Analysis: Marina View bobbled coming out of the gate last out, pressed the early pace and was no match for a 13 1/4 length winner in a runner up finish in her second career start. She was in the mix early in her debut two back before tiring to finish sixth versus maiden special weight company. She adds lasix here for the low profile Lerman barn and sports a bullet work on Nov. 5. She is out of the stakes winner Onebadkitty ($171,708) who has dropped three other foals to race, all winners, top earner stakes winner Third Day (2 for 2, $62,850).

Dovey Lovey cuts back from a route where last out the filly dueled for the early lead and tired to finish sixth. She checked in third three back in her last sprint try. She drops in for a tag here for the first time for the Contessa barn that is just 1 for his last 31 dropping runners from maiden special to maiden claiming.

Analysis: Tombelaine prompted the early pace, had to steady on the far turn and continued on to finish a good third last out at Laurel Park against non-conditioned allowance foes over good ground. Diodoro claimed this guy for $62,500 back in June at Belmont Park out of a win and he has come up short in three tries for the new barn but each was against tougher. He makes his third start of his current form cycle with a drop in class here to take on Alw-2 foes.

Battle Station tired to finish 10th last out at Kentucky Downs in the Franklin-Simpson. The gelding beat Alw-1 foes two back at the Spa over good ground going 5 1/2 furlongs. This guy is a two-time stakes winner against state breds on the main track and the switch to turf suited this guy except for his last outing. The Ward trainee figures to bounce back here facing easier.
