Horse Races Today: Saturday’s Gulfstream Park and OP Analysis & Odds

Horse Racing Action at TVG!
We have a solid 12-race card on tap at Gulfstream Park this afternoon highlighted by the $75,000 Unbridled for three-year-olds that will go 1 1/16 miles on the main track.

The Todd Pletcher trained Dr Post is the 8-5 morning line favorite. The colt beat first level allowance foes in his last start going seven furlongs and this will be his first career start going two turns.

As you can see below, I am going to take a swing for the fences with longshot Soros, who is 15-1 on the morning line.

We have a pair of stakes on tap at Oaklawn Park this afternoon including an exciting showdown between a couple of very good fillies in the $125,00 Carousel at six furlongs.

Bellafina is the 8-5 morning line favorite and a winner of six of her 13 career starts including the 2019 Santa Anita Oaks (G1). She takes on a talented filly in Mia Mischief, winner of last year’s Humana Distaff (G1) at Churchill Downs.

The co-feature at Oaklawn Park is the $100,000 Bachelor at six furlongs which drew field of nine three-year-olds. The Bob Baffert trained Eight Rings is the 5-2 morning line favorite.

Here is the opening race from Gulfstream Park to get the day off to a good start:

Gulfstream Park Opening Race of the Day - 4/25

GP Race 1 Md $12,500 (12:45 ET)
#5 Imperial Guard   5-1
#7 Bychance   8-1
#3 R Ninja J K   9-2
#2 Quick Charge   4-1

Analysis: Imperial Guard makes his second start off the bench here for the Braddy barn. Kast out the colt stalked the early pace and tired to finish ninth against $25,000 foes in his first go off a 10-month layoff. The winner Ohanzee came back to beat $20,000 non-winner of two in his next outing on April 17. The colt should be tighter here and he drops in for a $12,500 tag here. He has a decent turf pedigree, by Point of Entry out of an Empire Maker mare, her first foal to race.

Bychance set the early fractions and weakened to finish fifth last out for a $25,000 tag. The colt did not show much in his first six starts but the switch to turf two back seems to have suited him, two back fifth while beaten less than three lengths. The colt looks like a good fit here on the class drop.

Gulfstream Park Featured Race of the Day - 4/25

GP Race 9 The Unbridled (4:53 ET)
#6 Soros   15-1
#7 Attachment Rate   3-1
#3 Dr Post   8-5
#2 Americanus   6-1

Analysis: Soros could be the biggest price in the field. The colt broke his maiden going a mile in the Smooth Air in his second career start last November in his second career outing. The Delgado trainee returned last out off a four-month break against Alw-1 optional claimers. He was off near the back of the pack and saved ground throughout on a day the rail was deep and not the place to be. He made a mild late run to finish fifth and looks capable of moving forward off that effort. This guy still appears to have some upside. He is a half to stakes winner Ladyecho ($381,186) and graded stakes placed Whatdreamsrmadeof ($137,080). Worth a look here at a generous price.

Attachment Rate broke his maiden here in the slop two back by 6 ¼ lengths in a good looking outing in his third career start. He shipped to New York for the Gotham (G3) where he made a mild late rally to finish third. The runner up Untitled came back to roll over Alw-1 optional claimers here on Thursday. The colt owns a solid pace profile throughout and looks ready for his first test going two turns. The $200,000 Keeneland purchase is by Hard Spun out of an Afleet Alex mare that has dropped three other foals to race, all winners.

Dr Post was fourth in his debut last July which was won by Green Light Go who won the Saratoga Special (G2) and ran second in the Champagne (G1) in his next two starts. Last out the Pletcher trainee came back off an eight-month layoff to break his maiden in fast time and earned the top last out speed fig. He is bred to handle the stretch out to two turns, by Quality Road out of the stakes winner Mary Delaney ($305,879). The Pletcher barn is 21% winners moving runners from sprint to route. Irad is back riding today and picks up the call. With the big number the colt earned last out the price figures to be very much on the short side.

Oaklawn Park Featured Race of the Day - 4/25

OP Race 9 The Bachelor (4:45 CT)
#9 Long Weekend   3-1
#7 Eight Rings   5-2
#1 Little Menace   4-1
#4 Ginobili   6-1

Analysis: Long Weekend took the field gate to wire to win the gazebo here over the main track, earning the top last out speed fig. He came back off six-month layoff two back at Sam Houston where he rolled over Alw-2L optional claimers by nearly seven lengths. The Amoss trainee owns solid early and mid pace numbers and he looked last out like he had a little something left in the tank. Her looks capable of winning right back in this spot.

Eight Rings ships in from SoCal for the Baffert barn. He makes his first start since running sixth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1). Her won the American Pharoah (G1) wiring the field which was his first start around two turns. He broke his maiden in his debut at 5 1/2 furlongs and then lost his jock in the Del mar Futurity (G1). He has been working quickly and has a bullet drill since arriving in Hot Springs. The barn is 35% winners with runners coming back off a 61-180-day layoff. He looks like a threat, but our top pick is likely going to offer a bit more value for the top spot.

Live Longshots:
These are price plays for exotic players looking to find a couple of extra contenders to use in their trifecta and superfecta wagers. Or for those with smaller bankrolls, you might want to get in a small win-place wager.
