ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) -El Gato Malo beat Indian Sun by 6 1/4 lengths Saturday in the $150,000 San Rafael Stakes at Santa Anita.

Ridden by David Flores, El Gato Malo covered a mile in 1:33.37 and paid $6.80, $4.40 and $2.60 in the Kentucky Derby prep for 3-year-olds.

``That first Saturday in May is looking pretty promising,'' said Jeff Bloom, representing winning owners West Coast Thoroughbreds.

Indian Sun returned $6.20 and $3, while Massive Drama was another three-quarters of a length back in third and paid $2.20 to show.

Sierra Sunset was fourth, Talk of a Cat fifth and Overbid sixth. Spinning Sound was scratched.

Winning trainer Craig Dollase said El Gato Malo would likely run next in the San Felipe Stakes on March 15.

``From day one, this horse has shown that he's got it in him,'' Dollase said. ``He's the real deal. It doesn't look like there are any distance limitations for him. He could have gone around there again. He's a special animal.''
