W e ended the week on Sunday in the black at both Belmont Park and Churchill Downs.
At Belmont Park we had three winners on top on the card, good for a +26% +ROI with my top picks.
At Churchill Downs I listed all ten winners, three on top, my top picks producing a +27% +ROI. The highlight of the day was nailing the late double cold, returning $74.00.
This is closing week for the Churchill Downs meeting, which ends on Sunday. To be honest, I am looking forward to the end of the meet, which has not lived up to the usual standards. We saw entirely too many small field and small payoffs.
I am looking forward to Saratoga, which starts later this month. There will be racing six days a week, and plenty of stakes action and full fields.
I’ll have a preview of the meet next week, when I complete my Spa homework.

Here is today's opener from Churchill Downs to get our day off to a good start:
CD Race 1 Clm $5,000 (1:15 et) #1 Mandu Genius 9/5 #6 Waki About Boo 6/1 #1 Buddha Calling / #1a I Nv Slew 7/5 #2 Little Manassas 15/1
Analysis: #1 Mandu Genius made a good late rally and came up just a head shy of beating $10K foes last out going seven furlongs. The third place finisher in the race was Systems Steve, who came back to beat $16K claimers in his next outing on 6/7. The gelding was claimed out of his last start by Autrey barn that is 21% winners first off the claim. Two good efforts over the main track here barn jams him in for $5K while getting a key jock upgrade to Theriot.
#6 Waki About Boo drops back in for $5K after winning for this tag two back and regressing last out versus $7.5K foes, a fifth place finish. The winner of his last start was Swerve who returned to beat $7.5K claimers in his next start on 6/15.
Wagering WIN: #1 to win at 9/5 or better. EX: 5,6 / 1,2,5,6 TRI: 5,6 / 1,2,5,6 / 1,2,3,5,6
Today’s Featured Race From Belmont Park:
BEL Race 8 Proud Delta S. (4:45 et) #2 All Night Labor 12/1 #3 Inside Passage 9/5 #6 Scooter Girl 6/1 #4 Runway Rosie 2/1
Analysis: #2 All Night Labor was no match for nine length winner Lemon Drop Mom last out in the $50K Winter Melody at Del Park. The winner came back to run third in the G3 Obeah in her next outing on 6/14. The filly won her four previous starts including a restricted stake at the Big A and a $75K stake at Philly. Her recent numbers are on the light side but she comes in here fresh and we should catch a decent price.
#3 Inside Passage was a much the best winner last out against Alw-2 optional claimers and is 2 for 2 sine coming back off the bench and landing with Tagg barn. She comes in here very sharp with the main knock the likely light price.
Wagering WIN: #2 to win at 6/1 or better. EX: 2,3 / 2,3,4,6 TRI: 2,3 / 2,3,4,6 / 2,3,4,5,6
Today’s Featured Race From Churchill Downs:
CD Race 6 Clm $20,000N3L (3:52 et) #5 Louis James 10/1 #3 Duty Roster 3/1 #6 Blue Prince 8/1 #9 Saltgrass Trail 6/1
Analysis: #5 Louis James went gate to wire to beat $15K non winners of two last out in a sharp effort. He was claimed out of the race by Crymley barn that is showing a 2 for 9 mark first off the claim. The barn is hitting at a 19% clip on the year, starting runners mostly at Thistle and River. Zito gave up on this guy, jamming him in for $15K after a fifth place finish against $50K company two back. Looks like capable barn and he brings his regular jock to ride.
#3 Duty Roster came from off the pace to beat $15K non winners of two last out. The gelding was claimed out of the race by Maker barn that is 27% winners first off the claim. Earned the top last out speed fig in the effort and fits well here although with the barn switch the price figures to be light.
Wagering WIN: #5 to win at 7/2 or better. EX: 3,5 / 3,5,6,9 TRI: 3,5 / 3,5,6,9 / 3,5,6,7,9
Live Longshots: These are price plays for exotic players looking to find a couple of extra contenders to use in their trifecta and superfecta wagers. Or for those with smaller bankrolls, you might want to get in a small win-place wager.
Belmont Park R2: #5 Tre Cool 12/1 R5: 32 Hibigboy 8/1 R6: #5 Dontess 12/1 R6: #4 Gift of Valor 15/1 R8: #2 All Might Labor 12/1 R9: #2 Talbots Shopper 10/1
